GRAPHITAR® is self lapping and flexible enough to conform closely to its mating surface. GRAPHITAR® is a very hard material and extremely resistant to wear. It is lubricated by most fluids so that the medium being sealed can serve as the seal lubricant. Its permeability can be controlled to allow the lubricating medium to be metered to the sealing surface or to completely contain even the most volatile fluids. A typical face seal consists of a stationary seat, a rotating seal ring and the necessary hardware to hold both elements in place. In general, the retaining mechanism for a GRAPHITAR® seal ring should provide an evenly distributed pressure on the ring, sufficient to maintain the seal under any operating or static conditions.
